This was a gut renovation and buildout of a completely empty, never-renovated, Victorian-era storefront on Atlantic Avenue, in Brooklyn, to become a parfumerie selling only niche luxury brands. Before the reno, the space was all one room and everything was painted yellow.
Working in partnership with my husband Bjarke Ballisager, we created a new floor plan allowing for a back office and storage, then we designed all the shelving, fixtures, and furniture, and supervised its fabrication at Brooklyn fabrication workshops.
The cabinetry at the back was faced in oak reclaimed from a factory on Prince Street, in Manhattan. We had custom leather cushions made by a local upholsterer for the corner banquette, and had a local metal fabricator make the round white metal table I designed just for the space. Bjarke designed and hand-built the chandeliers.
