The Mobile Foodie Survival Kit
Product Design & Development; Marketing
The Mobile Foodie Survival Kit was a pocket-sized spice kit I designed for travelers, campers, students, and anyone living in a small space. It was a compact set of essential organic herbs and spices in a form small enough to fit in a handbag, backpack, or suitcase. The first version came in a metal tin with small metal spice pots; I later redesigned it in stronger PPE plastic, making better suited to travel while keeping it sustainable (in that PPE creates no toxic byproducts during manufacturing, it can be recycled infinitely without losing structural integrity, and the kit’s components could be reused for countless other purposes).
I also designed the production process for assembly by adults with mental and physical disabilities at a nonprofit sheltered workshop in Brooklyn providing them with paid work opportunities. The kit went on to be sold in design shops and lifestyle boutiques across the U.S., as well as at Nordstrom and RH. As a result of my own PR efforts, it was featured in major U.S. magazines (including Newsweek and TIME) and design blogs.
