Twisted Lily

Interior design, furniture design, styling. Brooklyn, NYC

Twisted Lily needed a full transformation: a niche fragrance boutique built from the ground up from a gut-renovated Brooklyn storefront, to feel as considered and specific as the perfumes it sold. Working in partnership with designer Bjarke Ballisager, I led the interior design and construction, taking the space from demolition — including all new electrical and ventilation systems — through to the final styling of merchandise displays.

We designed and had built nearly every element of the store from scratch: the open shelving system, a central display island, and a round metal seating table on wheels, along with reclaimed leather upholstery for the built-in bench seating. Countertops and back-counter facings were faced in 100-year-old wood salvaged from a demolished Manhattan factory's floor beams, and every paint and finish was chosen with sustainability in mind, including zero-VOC products. The result is a space that was warm and inviting, materially rich, without ever competing with the product on the shelves.
